What are Dedicated Servers?
When we talk about web hosting servers, there are 3 main kinds - hosting servers, VPS (private virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated packages. Shared hosting servers host multiple clients and thus the system resources per account are restricted, VPS offer more server configuration autonomy, but also influence other virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if utilized rashly, and dedicated servers offer you the independence to perform everything you desire without meddling with anyone else.
Why would you require a dedicated servers?
Dedicated servers are commonly much more high-priced than shared hosting servers or virtual servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The reply is rather simple. If your company has a heavy-content site, or just has very exact server architecture requirements, the wisest option would be a dedicated servers. For somebody who is inclined to invest in security and dependability, the greater price is not an issue. You get complete root access and can use 100% of the dedicated web hosting server's system resources without anyone else sharing these system resources and messing with your web pages.
Most web hosting providers, incl. us at webreg, provide several hardware architectures you can choose from in accordance with your demands. The hardware configurations offer different varieties of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM and server hard disk drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can choose a Control Panel, which is a convenient GUI if you want to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to use SSH for all the changes you will be making. We offer 3 kinds of web hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The hosting CP of your choosing
If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our dedicated servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated packages through a Secure Shell tunnel exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, particularly if you decide to grant full root privileges to someone else who has less technical abilities than yourself. That is why having hosting CP software installed is a nice idea. The Hepsia Control Panel GUI that we provide does not offer full root-level access and is mainly appropriate for someone who runs many web portals that absorb lots of resources, but wants to manage the sites, databases and mailboxes through a user-friendly Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant full root privileges and include 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting accounts rather than using the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.
Server monitoring and backup services
Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network outage, it is useful to have some sort of monitoring system enabled. Here at webreg the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an additional feature - the hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would allow you to keep the same data on two disk drives as a protective measure in case of a hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full root-level access erases something accidentally.
