Each and every personal computer or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software that communicates with the computer hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, together with any apps that are present on the system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, each app runs within the parameters established by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. If a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, which means that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.

Multiple OS in VPS

If you choose to go for one of our virtual private server plans, you shall be able to choose one of the three Linux releases that we provide for the OS of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. These are among the most widely used and most stable server OSs out there and we offer them so that you have a choice for the software environment of your machine in case that you wish to install some app with particular requirements regarding the packages that have to be present on the web hosting server. We also offer three web hosting Control Panels and which one of them you could use will depend on the OS that you have picked. We leave the possibility to replace the server Operating System open, so if you want to use software that requires an OS different from the one that's already present, we can always reinstall the VPS. In addition, we can keep the OS up-to-date weekly by installing any security updates that may be released.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting

In case you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on the machine as different applications may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a stable and safe hosting service. Based on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software that you intend to run. We can also upgrade the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
